The Defence Language Education and Training Department of D.O.D. of the Republic of Indonesia has been conducting English Language Training Program for more than nineteen years. During these years, it has met a lot of handicaps and challenges. Until today, it is still trying to find solutions of these problems. Here are three main problems that we encounter in conducting ELTP since it was established.

First of all, let’s take a look at our human resources who are responsible in designing curriculum. Do we have enough qualified personnel who are able to design curriculum? As far as I know those who work in curriculum department are not the ones with this background. Now pusdiklat Bahasa has one personnel who has attended Curriculum Design Course in Australia and it is expected that he would apply what he has studied in our workplace . But he is in Australia at the moment as L.O. He hasn’t imparted what he got from this course to the other people. Thus, we probably have to wait for another two years until he finishes his duty in Australia.





Why widyaiswara…..

Several days ago Pusdiklat Tekfunghan conducted the test to select competent widyaiswara after conducting the course of Cawid for a month . This test seemed so tiring since all the participants were divided into three groups and each of them had their own turns to present their materials. It seems to me that this profession has been a trend among civilians. And I am one of those who chooses this profession though I have been an instructor for quite sometimes. Why can this happen to us. Probably one of the reasons is to get accreditation and this title of ‘Widyaiswara LAN’ is so promising for our prosperity. We can teach not only in pusdiklat bahasa or in our unit but we can be  guest instructors  for other government institutions.
